asha bandele is the award-winning author of four books, including two volumes of poetry, Absence in the Palms of My Hands (1996) and The Subtle Art of Breathing (2005), a memoir, The Prisoner’s Wife, and a novel, Daughter. A journalist as well, bandele’s work has appeared in numerous publications including Family Circle, where she currently writes a blog on single parenting; and Vibe; The Source; Honey; The New York Times and Essence Magazine, where she served as Features Editor until 2004, when she accepted the Revson Fellowship at Columbia University. asha took her undergraduate degree from The New School for Social Research and her M.F.A. from Bennington College and lives in Brooklyn with her little girl, Nisa, where she is finishing a second memoir about life as a single mother.
